HEALTH, DENTAL & DISABILITY

We all know that obtaining health and dental insurance is a priority. However, due to costs, we sometimes place this priority on the back burner. We offer very competitive rates because we are partnered with a variety of carriers; to suit a variety of budgets!

What is the difference between an HMO and PPO?

The primary difference between these two types of coverages is an HMO requires you to obtain a referral from your primary care physician before you can see any type of specialist. This is usually a more affordable option if budget is a major concern.

A PPO plan allows you to go directly to any doctor for your care (e.g. Oncologist, Rheumatologist, etc). No referrals are needed unless you just want to ask your primary care doctor who they recommend.

What is the difference between "Out-of-Pocket" and a deductible?

The deductible is the amount of money you are required to pay before the insurance company with begin coverage. The lower the deductible, the sooner they begin financial coverage.

Out-of-Pocket is a larger amount that has to be met before insurance pays out at 100%.

For instance, if you choose a policy that has a $500 deductible and $2,000 Out-of-Pocket with an 80%/20% split, this means you pay the first $500 of all incurred costs, then the insurance company begins to pay 80% of all medical bills. Once you have paid a total of $2,000 (because remember, you are still paying 20% of the incoming bills) – you then are covered at a full 100%. The insurance company will pay all of your medical bills for the rest of the year at the full, billed amount.

LIFE & UMBRELLA POLICIES

If someone is injured on your property, or you injure someone in a car accident, you could be liable for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Umbrella insurance policy is exactly what you need to protect your hard earned assets in today’s litigious society.

Do I still need life insurance if I have it through my employer?

Group life policies through employers are affordable but limited coverages. Because you are not taking an exam or answering in depth medical questions, employer group policies may only pay out 2 years of salary, for example. You would also loose it if you had to switch jobs, unsure if the new employer offers the same benefits. Separate life insurance policies will ensure your family is covered for an extended amount of time if something were to happen.

What is an "umbrella policy" exactly?

An umbrella insurance policy is an extra liability insurance coverage that goes beyond the limits of your insured home, auto or watercraft. It provides an additional layer of protection to those who are at risk for being sued for damages to other people’s property or injuries caused to others in an accident. It also protects against libel, vandalism, slander and invasion of privacy. An umbrella policy begins paying when the insurance owner is sued and the original policy has been exhausted.

AUTO & HOMEOWNERS

Not only is it a law or requirement to obtai these two types of insurance, but they are the sought after, next to health that is. We all want to make sure the money we invest into the safety and well being of where we lay our heads at night and how we commute every day is protected.

Can I change the options within my auto policy whenever I want?

Generally, you can change coverage limits or options within the policy whenever you would like. The insurance company will just charge you a prorated amount for that month and option/coverage.

Most companies handle cancelations in the same manner. If you cancel the policy early for certain reasons, you will just pay a prorated amount. However, make sure you check with your company because some may charge a cancellation fee.

Is there a waiting period to file a claim once I obtain homeowner's insurance?

Generally, there is a 30-90 day waiting period before any claims can be filed or paid on a new policy. You will need to check with the specific company with whom you have coverage to find out the exact waiting time.
